REWRITING THE COUNTRIES PUBLIC NARRATIVE

Public Narrative is a nonprofit located in Chicago. Public Narrative works with two distinct groups—journalists and nonprofits—teaching them how to tell better, more truthful stories. Public Narrative "particularly intends to change the public narrative to ensure we are telling the full story about racism, sexism and xenophobia — things that are historically and deeply woven into the fabric of society." Their main goal is to to ensure that stories involving these issues are complete and include the voices of all people, not just those in positions of power. In working with Public Narrative, I focused on the 2018 Studs Terkel Awards.

The Studs Terkel Awards:

Presented annually, the Studs Terkel Awards honor journalists whose work follows the values of Studs' journalism. Those honored are often reporters, editors, producers, videographers and photographers that take risks in covering social issues by offering new or unusual perspectives.
